Kalki Koechlin marks her directorial debut on stage

3rd July 2015

Kalki Koechlin is busy checking out costumes, grooming the actors, supervising the sets. Confused?

Sounds like she is turning a director. Yes. It is true. The actress though not for a movie, but is busy directing her first play 'The Living Room'.

Almost 2 years ago, the actress penned a conversation between death and an old woman, where the woman is unwilling to exit the world.

However, it was last year the actress churned out the whole script and is set to flag off her first venture soon in Bangalore. Though the topic sounds pretty serious the actress has turned it into a comedy on life and death.

She says, "It's ironic that we give so much importance to everything when this journey is so transient."

Multi-talented actress has stuck to one role, Kalki clarified that she won't act in it. "There's no role for me. I can't play an old woman, can I? So I just went to my ideal cast and fortunately for me, Neil Bhoopalam (he plays Death), Sheeba Chaddha (she's Mrs Anna Nil, the old woman), Jim Sarbh (Nil's grandson Born) and Tariq Vasudeva (a doctor) gave me the nod after a reading."

So will she be directing a film soon, on which she replies, "I'm not technically educated in filmmaking so unless I assist someone first, I am not capable of making a film. But I have studied theatre."
