Katie Price: IVF was traumatic

27th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Katie Price has revealed it has been traumatic for her to undergo IVF in a bid to have another baby.

The glamour model failed to conceive a child with her new husband Alex Reid naturally so consulted doctors to try and get pregnant. Katie who has three children from previous relationships decided to undergo ICSI (Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection), despite being terrified of needles. Even though the procedure is painful, Katie had two rounds but they were unsuccessful.

The star first spoke about her IVF bid in her new autobiography You Only Live Once, now she has discussed her desire to get pregnant in an interview on British television show This Morning.

We have done two IVFs actually and it did hurt me. The papers at the time said I was looking fat and saying I was pregnant. Obviously when you have injections your ovaries expand and make your tummy look swollen, so of course you are going to look like you are pregnant. I felt like they were tempting fate and I wanted to phone them up and say I was going through IVF, she explained. Both times they didnt work. The second time seemed more successful. It got to day 12 and then I started to bleed. Then I got a phone call from the doctor to say it hadnt worked. It is traumatic on your body.

Just because I have kids doesnt mean I can fall pregnant with someone else. You have to wait a couple of months before you can try IVF again and it is traumatic. It will happen when its supposed to happen.

Katie also went on to discuss her relationship with Alex. She has revealed the cage-fighters laidback attitude has had a calming effect on her and she feels far more secure and happy in her private life. Despite her fiery image, the star admits she is very insecure and needs a lot of assurance and affection from her loved ones.

Im very soft. In my private life, I am so insecure; I need a lot of love and a lot of attention. I think you find that with people in this industry, she added. Im not as hard faced as I come across; its a barrier I have to put up to cope with whats said about me. I am a human being, I have got feelings and the past year and a half has been so traumatic for me. Its my way of dealing with it. (C) Cover Media
