Big B & Akki once tweeted on fuel price rise but are mute now

23rd May 2018

Petrol and diesel prices registered new record highs in Delhi and Mumbai today. While petrol price in Delhi crossed Rs. 77 per litre for the first time ever, in Mumbai, the price was just 1 paisa away from Rs. 85 per litre. Diesel prices were at Rs. 68.34 a litre, Rs. 70.89 a litre, Rs. 72.76 a litre and Rs. 72.14 a litre respectively. A record-breaking surge in fuel prices and no tweet from Amitabh Bachchan and Akshay Kumar who once took a dig on Manmohan Singh's UPA government. Both celebrities criticized the government of that time to surge fuel prices and are now silent in the BJP reigning government.

In the UPA govt regime, Amitabh Bachchan had famously tweeted, "Ptrol up Rs 75: Pump attendant- Kitne ka doon? Mumbaikar- ‘2-4 rupye ka car ke upar spray kar de bhai, jalana hai."  Whereas Akshay tweeted, "Couldn't even get to my house at nite for all of Mumbai was queueing up for #petrol before the prices rocketed again."

It's not surprising that icons like Bachchan and Kumar are facing widespread condemnation for their glaring hypocrisy. Journalist Swati Chaturvedi wrote, "Sickening now deaf and dumb." Writer and columnist Ashok Swain wrote,"Modi's luck runs out and old tweets haunt Bollywood's Modi Bhakts!"
