Keith Richards: Jagger book wouldnt work

15th October 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Sir Mick Jagger will never be able to write his autobiography because it would be full of blank chapters, claims Keith Richards.

Keith is currently promoting his memoir Life, in which he talks candidly about what hes been through. The Rolling Stones rocker opens up about his hellraiser years, and the copious amount of drugs he has taken.

When he started penning the tome he was adamant he would be honest and open, something he doesnt think a lot of celebrities are. His bandmate Mick famously gave up writing his autobiography several years ago after claiming the process was dull, and Keith thinks it was the right decision.

I read [former The Rolling Stones bassist] Bill Wymans book, but after three or four chapters - where hes going, And by that point, I only had 600 left in Barclays Bank, I was like, Oh, Bill. You know what I mean? Youre far more interesting than that; do me a favour, he explained to British newspaper The Times. And Mick attempted it once, and ended up giving the money back. It was ten, fifteen years ago, and hed keep ringing up and going, What were we doing on August 15, 196-somefink? Id be like, Mick, youre writing it. I cant remember. And knowing Mick, there would have been a morass of blank chapters - because there would have been a lot of stuff he would have wanted to put to one side, hur hur.

In Life, Keith describes Mick as unbearable and reveals he has christened him Your Majesty because of the way he likes to be treated. He showed his bandmate the finished manuscript before it was published, and says he took the comments well. However, there was one part Mick asked him to remove, and Keith still finds the details funny.

It was the weirdest thing he wanted taken out. I mean, look. You know, I love the man. Ive known him since I was four years old, right. But the bit he wanted taken out was how he used a voice coach, Keith laughed. Yeah! And everyone knew it anyway. Its been in a million interviews, but for some reason, he was like: You know - could we leave that out? And I went, No! Im trying to say the truth here.

Keith is famously the inspiration for Johnny Depps character Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean film franchise. The two men get on well, and Keith is honoured Johnny thought of him while deciding how to play the role. The 66-year-old rocker revealed he isnt that interested in celebrity news, so he was actually unaware of who Johnny was when they first met.

It took me two year before I realised who he was. He was just one of my son Marlon's mates, hanging around the house playing guitar, he laughed. "I never ask Marlon's mates who they are because, you know, 'I'm a dope dealer'. Then one day I was at dinner and I'm like, 'Woah, Scissorhands." (C) Cover Media
