Kelly Clarkson is content with being single.
The 29-year-old Stronger singer has not had a beau in a while.
In recent weeks, speculation that Kelly may be gay due to a lack of a male presence in her life stormed around in the media.
Kelly is bewildered by the public's take on her private life.
"People are really concerned about my relationship status," Kelly told Now magazine. "When I tell people I'm happy being single, they don't believe me. They say: 'You have to be miserable being alone.' "
Kelly is most shocked by how some people refuse to take what she says seriously.
"I'm not gay. If I was, I'd say: 'I love women!' That's why it drives me nuts," Kelly explained. "But I feel like even if I did say it, people would be like: 'You're just trying to do that to win the gay audience'."
Earlier this month Kelly expressed to British newspaper the Mirror why being unattached is enhancing her life at the moment.
"I'm a kinda selfish person who right now enjoys being single, enjoys the fact that I can work as much as I do, and not really have to answer to anyone," she shared.
Kelly has been nominated in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category at this weekend's 54th Annual Grammy Awards.
