Kolkata Film Festival Will Screen 127 Films From 38 Countries

November 3, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The Kolkata Film festival is going to be flagged off very soon, this year the gala event will showcase 127 films from over 38 countries. The film festival starts from November 10 and it will continue till the 17th. Chief Minister of West Bengal Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee will inaugurate the event in Kolkata this month.

The 127 films including Satyajit Ray famous documentary Sikkim will be shown at the Film festival. There will be eight venues for the Kolkata Film festival this year and the 127 films will be distributed accordingly. The 8-day Film fest will start off with the critically acclaimed Costa Rican film Of Love and Other Demons by Hilda Hidalgo. The film is about the life of a girl born in a noble family, who lives in a protected environment throughout her life only to be abandoned by her own relatives later on.

According to Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee the Kolkata Film festival will have 12 segments in it such as celebration, centenary, tribute, Homage, honor etc. The 127 films will be divided into these categories and shown at the eight venues scattered throughout Kolkata.

Reports suggest that the Celebrations section will showcase four movies based on Rabindranath Tagores stories. On the other hand, the legendary section will have films by the renowned Japanese filmmaker Akira Kurosawa. This is one of the most prestigious events of the Bengal Film industry and movie lovers from West Bengal and all over the world wait for this occasion. The Kolkata film festival affords the movie lovers to get a decent exposure to world cinema.
