Kollywood shines at National Awards

Kollywood won five honours, apart from an award for Revathy for her directorial venture- a non-feature film on family values titled 'Red Building Where the Sun Sets', at the National Awards 2011 announced in New Delhi on Wednesday.

Suseenthiran directed "Azhagarsamiyin Kuthirai" was named the best popular film and its protagonist Appukutty won the best supporting actor award. The Best Film in Tamil award went to "Vaagai Sooda Va", directed by Sargunam.

The Indira Gandhi award for the best debut film of a director went to Tamil filmmaker Kumararaja Thiagarajan for his movie "Aaranya Kaandam". The same film fetched home the best editor award for K L Praveen.

Says Suseenthiran, 'I didn't expect this award. It is a big encouragement for me. I am doubly happy that Appukutty has also won an award.' Sargunam said, 'Our hard work has been recognised by the Central government. I am extremely happy'.
