Nawaz bags an award at Asia Pacific Screen Awards

Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has won the 'Best Performance By An Actor' award at the 12th edition of  Asia Pacific Screen Awards for his acclaimed film 'Manto'. This Nandita Das directorial was based on the real life of famous Urdu writer Saadat Hasan Manto. It was an opening film at the 71st Cannes film festival and got screened at the Sydney Film Festival as well as BFI London film festival 2018.

The film showcased how a controversial Urdu poet bravely talks about the dark truth of the society and his famous short proses were the highlight of the film. Looks like there is no stopping and the films would surely travel to places being a crafty art house film. It focuses majorly on the freedom of expression in the area of literature.

Taking Nawazuddin's Best Actor trophy on his behalf, acclaimed filmmaker Nandita Das said, "Manto is a film which is very close to Nawaz and my heart and everybody who has worked on it. Through this film, we hope to spread a lot of Manto-ness all around the world. It’s much more than labour of love; it's a labour of commitment and passion. Thank you Nawazuddin for being a part of this project."

The film is bankrolled by Viacom18 Motion Pictures, HP Studios, FilmStoc, Nandita Das Initiatives and co-produced by Magic If Films & En Compagnie des Lamas. The movie released on September 21, 2018.
