(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Lady Gaga thinks stars who have plastic surgery promote a more damaging image to fans than her body modification does.
The flamboyant singer is renowned for her edgy appearance and has recently started sporting horns which jut out of her face and shoulders. Her new look is tied into the promotion of her latest record Born This Way, with the star keen to show her admirers its important to embrace who you really are.
She knows some people will think shes encouraging her fans to go to extreme lengths to look different, but insists thats not what her facial changes are about.
I have never had plastic surgery, and there are many pop singers who have. I think that promoting insecurity in the form of plastic surgery is infinitely more harmful than an artistic expression related to body modification, she told the May edition of Harpers Bazaar.
And how many models and actresses do you see on magazine covers who have brand-new faces and have had plastic surgery, while I myself have never had any plastic surgery? I am an artist, and I have the ability and the free will to choose the way the world will envision me.
"Trust me, I know that. I think a lot of people love to convolute what everyone else does in order to disempower women. But my fans know me I am in no way promoting sadomasochism or masochism."
The star baulked when the horns were referred to as prosthetics in the interview, insisting they are her real bones. She claims they have always been there, its just she was waiting for the correct moment to unleash them on the world.
They come out when I'm inspired, she added. It's artistic expression. It's a performance-art piece.
Born This Way hits stores next month, and the single of the same name has already been released. Its been praised by fans who say the song is another example of why Gaga is one of the most different and edgy artists around at the moment. She explained if people enjoyed that single, the record will bowl them over.
Born This Way is the marijuana to the heroin of the album. The [album's] experience gets massively more intense as you explore it. All the different songs are different kinds of highs, she added. (C) Cover Media
