The actress-and-singer is best known for playing straight-laced high school student Rachel Berry in American television show Glee. Lea was born in New York and is incredibly close to her family, so she found it a struggle to move to Los Angeles when she landed the role. Even though she misses her loved ones, she still speaks to her parents all the time and is full of admiration for her dad. She hopes to settle down with a man who has a sense of humour and will look after her just like he does.
I know this is going to sound really cheesy, but I have the coolest dad in the entire world, she explained in an interview with the British edition of Glamour magazine. My dad is hilarious. Hes also strong, smart and makes me feel like hes going to take care of everything. I think those are the qualities I look for in a boyfriend.
The 24-year-old star is currently dating actor Theo Stockman, who is based in New York starring in Green Day Broadway show American Idiot. She says having a long-distance relationship can be difficult at times, but they both do their best to make time for each other.
Lea tries to return home as often as she can to catch up with Theo and her family.
Hes my best friend and I love him. He lets me be who I am, she said of Theo. You have to trust the person that youre with. If theres no trust, you find yourself being that crazy girlfriend checking your phone every two minutes. I try to get home to New York at least once a month.
Lea also spoke about rumoured romances on the set of Glee. She is aware many of the cast are good looking, but would be reluctant to take her friendships with her co-stars any further. However, she did confess to having a crush on Cory Monteith, who plays high school quarterback Finn Hudson, when she first started working on the show.
I think if it was ever going to be an issue, it would have happened by now. I mean, for me, it would have happened with Cory. The moment I met him, I thought, This boy is very cute. But hes like my big brother. Hes such a great friend, and I am so happy working with him every day that Im glad nothing has ever happened because it would have ruined something if it didnt work out.
