Mad Men and Mildred Pierce to dominate Emmy Awards

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Mad Men and Mildred Pierce have topped the list of Emmy Award nominations this year, earning 19 and 21 consecutively.

Among the top prizes Mad Men is in the running for are the best drama and best drama actor prize, with Jon Hamm up for the accolade for the fourth year in a row. Mildred Pierce got mentions in the best miniseries or movie prize, with its star Kate Winslet up for best miniseries or movie actress.

Other shows to do well included Boardwalk Empire with 18 nods, Saturday Night Live with 16 and Game of Thrones and 30 Rock with 13 each.

Actress-and-comedian Melissa McCarthy and star Joshua Jackson announced those in the running for the 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards in Hollywood this morning.

Nominees for the coveted best drama award are Boardwalk Empire, Dexter, Friday Night Lights, Game of Thrones, The Good Wife and Mad Men.

The best drama actress prize will either go to Julianna Margulies for The Good Wife, Elisabeth Moss in Mad Men, Mariska Hargitay for Law & Order: SVU, Kathy Bates for Harry's Law, Connie Britton in Friday Night Lights and Mireille Enos for The Killing.

The male version of the gong sees some huge names battling it out. In the running are Steve Buscemi for Boardwalk Empire, Kyle Chandler for Friday Night Lights, Dexter' Michael C Hall, Jon Hamm for Mad Men, Hugh Laurie for House and Timothy Olyphant in Justified.

Supporting stars are just as important. For the woman, either Kelly Macdonald for Boardwalk Empire, Christina Hendricks for Mad Men, Michelle Forbes for The Killing, Archie Panjabi or Christine Baranski for The Good Wife or Margo Martindale for Justified will triumph.

When it comes to the men, Mad Men's John Slattery, Men Of A Certain Age's Andre Braugher, Alan Cumming and Josh Charles from The Good Wife, Walton Goggins from Justified and Peter Dinklage from Game of Thrones are all in the running.

Best comedy series will be picked up by either Modern Family, 30 Rock, Glee, The Office, The Big Bang Theory, Parks or Recreation.

Battling for the best comedy actor prize are Matt LeBlanc for Episodes, The Big Bang Theory's Jim Parsons and Johnny Galecki, Steve Carell for his turn in The Office, Louis C.K. for Louie and 30 Rock's Alec Baldwin.

The female version of the gong is just as hotly contended, with The Big C's Laura Linney, Nurse Jackie's Edie Falco and Parks And Recreation's Amy Poehler going head to head with Melissa McCarthy for Mike& Molly, Martha Plimpton for Raising Hope and 30 Rock's Tina Fey.

The ceremony will be hosted by Jane Lynch, renowned for her portrayal of sharp-tongued cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester in comedy television series Glee. The role has won her a nomination for the best supporting comedy actress prize, which will go to either her, Betty White for Hot in Cleveland, Julie Bowen or Sofa Vergara for Modern Family, Kristen Wiig for Saturday Night Live or Jane Krakowski for 30 Rock.

As far as the supporting funnymen go, Jon Cryer has won a nomination for his part in Two and a Half Men, as has Chris Colfer for Glee. Modern Family is the big story here though, with the show's stars Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet and Ty Burrrell all in the running.

Either Cinema Verite, The Kennedys, Downton Abbey, Mildred Pierce, Pillars of the Earth or Too Big To Fail will take home the best miniseries or movie award. Kate Winslet has been nominated for best miniseries actress for Mildred Pierce, with her category also mentioning Elizabeth McGovern, Diane Lane, Taraji P. Henson and Jean Marsh.

For the male prize, either Greg Kinnear, Barry Pepper, Edgar Ramirez, William Hurt, Idris Elba or

Laurence Fishburne will win.

The hotly anticipated ceremony will air in the US on Sunday September 18.
