Malin Akerman replaces Lohan as Lovelace

22nd November 2010

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Malin Akerman is passionate about Linda Lovelace biopic Inferno, in which she has replaced Lindsay Lohan as the lead character.

Lindsay is currently being treated at the Betty Ford Center in California, where she checked in after failing two court-ordered drug tests while on probation. She has been ordered by a judge to stay in the facility until January 3 2011.

Prior to her stint in rehab she was cast as adult star Linda in Inferno, which will trace the life of the Deep Throat actress, a 70s porn star who went on to become a feminist anti-porn activist. After her role in the film was announced Lindsay was sent to prison and rehab for breaching her probation, and it was upon her release she failed the drugs tests which sent her to the Betty Ford Center.

Writer and director Matthew Wilder initially insisted the movie was fully supporting Lindsay and would wait to commence shooting until she was ready, but it has now been revealed she will no longer take part in the film.

There have been differing reports, although it seems Lindsay decided not to take part so she can focus on her recovery. Malin Akerman has been cast as her replacement, and is excited to get started on the project.

Malin was passionate to take this challenge of the role to task and we feel she has the talent to meet that challenge, said producer Chris Hanley.

Lindsay had scheduling issues due to legal obligations and is continuing to focus on getting better in rehabilitation in Palm Springs, and she really had to focus on that in our opinion and hers. For herself and her career in general it was really her decision to just focus on getting better psychologically.

Matthew has also discussed the new direction of the project, saying the impossibility of insuring her had made the project untenable. (C) Cover Media
