(Cover) - EN Movies - Maria Shriver has responded to news that her estranged husband Arnold Schwarzenegger fathered a love child over a decade ago.

The journalist and her Hollywood actor spouse announced they had parted ways after 25 years of marriage earlier this month.

There had been rumours circulating that the former Governor of California had been unfaithful to Maria, 55, and he confirmed earlier today that their separation was triggered when he told her he fathered a child in secret over ten years ago with a long-running member of their household staff.

Maria, who has four children with her estranged husband, has broken her silence on the subject after her spokesman revealed she had no comment earlier today.

"This is a painful and heartbreaking time," she said. "As a mother, my concern is for the children. I ask for compassion, respect and privacy as my children and I try to rebuild our lives and heal. I will have no further comment."

The former staff member's name will not be revealed to protect privacy, nor will that of the child. (C) Cover Media
