Maroon 5 debut new song

17th April 2012

Maroon 5 premiered their new song with Wiz Khalifa last night to rapturous applause.

The band's frontman Adam Levine serves as a judge and mentor on the US version of talent show The Voice, and took to the stage to perform the first single from their new album Overexposed.

The upbeat pop track is called Payphone and features Pittsburgh rapper Wiz.

This isn't the first time Maroon 5 have debuted a new song on the TV series. The group also premiered Moves Like Jagger featuring Adam's fellow judge Christina Aguilera last year.

Adam took to his Twitter page to discuss his new album with fans, even managing to tease his fellow mentor and country singer Blake Shelton in the process.

"So...@maroon5 has a premiere today...@justinbieber has a premiere today...@Blakeshelton? Oh yeah. You don't. #BOOM (I'm an idiot)," he joked before answering questions from his Twitter followers.

"My favorite song on the album is daylight... It feels like everyone in the world will be singing it #Payphone. we love pop music, and I feel like on this record we fully embraced our pop side #Payphone (sic)," he revealed.

"didnt really want to have a collaboration on the album but we heard @RealWizKhalifa was interested He's the future #Payphone."

Meanwhile, The Voice took a dramatic turn in last night's quarterfinal show. A shock elimination saw Christina and Blake each send one person from their group home.

The Voice US also stars Cee Lo Green on the judging panel.
