22nd February 2011

(Cover) - EN Movies - Martin Sheen is praying for his son Charlie Sheen to get better.

Charlie has suffered a series of personal problems over the last few months, culminating in him seeking rehab treatment at home after he was hospitalised following an alleged two days of partying with porn stars. His medical care means work on his show Two and a Half Men was shut down, with Charlie since admitting he finds sobriety boring.

Martin is do all he can to support his son, but admits finding things tough.

With prayer, he replied, when asked how he helps Charlie. We lift him up and we ask everyone who cares about him to lift him up, and lift up all those who are in the grip of drug and alcohol abuse, because they are looking for transcendence.

Martin made the comments at the London premiere of his new movie The Way. He explained he hopes to act alongside his son again in the future, and cant wait for the day they can embark on a film together. The appeared alongside each other in 1987s Wall Street.

That would be another miracle and we'd look forward to it, very much so, he said.

I think people are looking for transcendence, particularly in the West. We seek to touch the sacred somehow. I think that's why people use drugs and alcohol, they're looking for some transcendental experience in their lives.

Martin portrays a US father called Tom in The Way. Tom goes to France to collect his dead son, who passed away while completing the iconic Camino de Santiago walk, from France to Spain.

The film is directed by Martins son Emilio Estevez, who also stars in it. Hes proud of his work, and explained he had some unusual inspiration while making it.

We look at this film like a retelling of The Wizard Of Oz, Emilio revealed. Martin's character is Dorothy, [James] Nesbitt's is the scarecrow, and they're looking for the wizard - but instead of going to Oz, they're going to Santiago de Compostela. (C) Cover Media
