Matt Damon: I dont care what people think

2nd March 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Matt Damon says he doesnt panic about what people think and thats the only way to get by in Hollywood.

The 40-year-old has enjoyed a hugely successful career so far, thanks to roles in movies including Saving Private Ryan, Invictus, The Departed and the Bourne franchise.

He also starred in Good Will Hunting and co-wrote the screenplay with his co-star and friend Ben Affleck. Matt has revealed he uses Bens blueprint of always taking his career in a new direction as an inspiration.

[Being a success is] about not tying your identity to what the business thinks of you. If I fall off that list again, Ill just do what Ben [Affleck] did and find a project and write. We did it with Good Will Hunting out of nowhere, Matt told the British edition of Glamour. If you want to panic about what people think of you in Hollywood, youre not going to get anywhere. If you know how to write and tell a story, youll never be replaced.

The talented actor believes his pal didnt move into directing because it would be seen as the right thing to do. And hes pleased that Ben - who made acclaimed crime story The Town last year has shown he is capable of succeeding on the other side of the camera.

Ben never panicked and never demanded any kind of status. He was just one of the guys saying, Im not doing this, Ill do this. And it turns out he is a great director, he said.

Matt is always aware that he is very lucky to be in his position. So he remembers to have fun and not be too hard on himself if he makes a mistake.

I have learnt that there is a way to do this job and have fun, enjoy this life and not torture yourself, he added. (C) Cover Media
