Matt Damon: Independence is attractive

28th February 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Matt Damon fell in love with his now-wife because she didnt need him.

The 40-year-old actor met Luciana in 2003 when she was bartending in Miami. Matt says she has changed his life, with the pair getting married in 2005. The Hollywood star is in awe of Lucianas independent personality and he hopes the four children they raise together four-year-old Isabella, two-year-old Gia, Stella, who was born in October, and Alexia, Lucianas daughter from a previous relationship are inspired by their mother.

There was something appealing about my wife and that was she didnt need me. I love that shes strong, he said in an interview with the British edition of Glamour. Strength is a wonderful quality for my daughters to see in the most important woman in their life.

Matt insists he is happy to have such a female-dominated family and doesnt feel he is missing out by not having a son. The actor hasnt ruled out expanding his brood in the future, but says a happy marriage is more important to him than raising a boy.

No, I hope to still have a marriage, he joked when asked if he still wants a son. Its a whole different energy being surrounded by women. I am getting a new perspective on the world that Id have missed if Id had boys.

Matt has previously revealed his daughters usually overwhelm him and he struggles to maintain authority when it comes to disciplining them. The actor has now confessed that raising a brood of girls has made him realise how different males are from females.

When Isabella was 18 months and she was trying to get a treat out of me, I said no and she asked me again and I caved in. Then my wife came into the room. Isabella looked up at her mother, shyly smiled and put her head down and I realised that at 18 months old, this creature had control over me, he added. Men dont have a chance. I feel were such a different species. (C) Cover Media
