January 12, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): Proof of Life is set against the backdrop of fictional South American country Tecala. Meg Ryan essays the role of Alice Bowman, a hippie. It is a thriller where Alices husband has been kidnapped without any evidence regarding him. There is hardly any clue of Alices hubby and there is speculation that he could be dead. Meg Ryan looks great playing the character of Alice, however what stands out quite starkly is her makeup and her styling. Meg looks immaculate in sarongs with embroidery on them. Ryans wardrobe in the film comprises of leather jackets waistcoat, sandals, and also matelot sweater. Ryans hairdo is perfect though it looks out of place especially when her husband has been captured.
Alice does spend much time in the kitchen but she hardly cooks and often accompanies her maid to the local market for grocery shopping as she can hardly pronounce the ingredients. Ryan is portrayed as the hippie and she plays her role to perfection and gets her attire right with the skirts and tie and dye. Ryan has tried to shed her earlier image of a sweet nice girl and she appears to be an iconoclast in the movie. At times we do feel that Meg could have done without her leather jacket and tops as it looks out of place.
