(Cover) - EN Fashion - Michael Kors debuted his simple new collection at New York Fashion Week yesterday.
The designer showed his Sunshine State of Mind line in a colourful show at the Lincoln Center. Speaking backstage shortly after the catwalk parade, Michael said he was thrilled with the range because is showed his skill as a designer.
"It's all about the way you cut it, the texture... You can't hide behind ruching and ruffles. But I love simplicity when it's right," he told reporters.
Michaels clothes were unusual, with models sashaying down the runway in a bright yellow cashmere tank dress, a crinkled hemp linen tunic, a white gauze pullover and several floaty linen skirts accessorised with flat, buff-coloured sandals. The colour palette included white and neutral tones, as well as bright green, pink and yellow.
"The relaxed attitude of pyjamas, robes, sarongs, tees and sweats bring the sexy ease of beach life to the city," Michael said in his show notes.
Michael also showed several menswear looks, including a navy linen suit and several chunky cable-knit turtlenecks.
Anna Sui also unveiled her new collection yesterday. The designers Spring/Summer 11 line was called Little House on the Prairie, and was inspired by the American wilderness. The runway was decorated with wheat with a small house in the background.
Clothes were indigo, lilac, slate, ash, blue and beige in colour, along with a smattering of bold vintage prints, including paisley and checkerboards. Some dresses resembled aprons, while cardigans, fringed ponchos, paisley leggings, long skirts and bell bottoms all featured heavily.
"This spring I was inspired by Joni Mitchell, Thomas Eakins, Little House on the Prairie, Neil Young, Andrew Wyeth, Holly Hobbie, Ladies of the Canyon, Winslow Homer ... the poetry and romanticism of the American prairie," Anna said in notes.
Tory Burch also debuted her new collection, in front of an audience including hip-hop singer Kanye West and US Vogue Editor-in-chief Anna Wintour. Torys model wore eye-popping shades of orange, trimmed with gold and other warm tones.
Key pieces were a pair of wide-leg mustard trousers, an orange sack dress, a long crochet skirt and a series of gold metallic belts.
Yesterday also saw the first time size 16 models have walked at New York Fashion Week. US label OneStopPlus.com put on a show featuring several curvaceous beauties to prove bigger women are equally as beautiful and as fashionable.
Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Gwen Stefanis L.A.M.B. label and Isaac Mizrahi will all show their new collections at New York Fashion Week later today. (C) Cover Media
