Moby: I almost turned into Woody Allen

6th May 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Moby stopped going to therapy as he thought he was becoming too similar to Woody Allen.

The 45-year-old musician has enjoyed immense success in the industry for over two decades thanks to his unique blend of electronica, and he openly admits that seeing a therapist helped him cope with the pressures of fame.

The star teased that he no longer goes to a counsellor though as his interest in the human mind made him think he was becoming 75-year-old moviemaker Woody Allen whose films often deal with the subject of neurosis and psychoanalysis.

"Therapy has been extremely useful. I've done dynamic psychoanalysis and also the cognitive behavioural kind that deals with specific issues. I've stopped going now, as my similarity to Woody Allen should only go so far, he joked to British newspaper The Independent.

But being human can be a baffling and overwhelming thing. That there are people out there who can help you navigate that is a very great and comforting thing."

Moby feels he is in a great place now and has no qualms about discussing his experimentation with alcohol and drugs in his early career. The star is now extremely clean living, and received help to curb his alcohol consumption a few years back.

Don't get me wrong, it was fun for a while," he explained.

"Really, really fun. But when the novelty wears off you're left with this intense loneliness, and the creeping suspicion that you have turned into an idiot. At the time I found the best way to deal with that was to drink." (C) Cover Media
