Morrissey shocked with Queen placard

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - The Smiths made one woman "nearly fall off her chair" by calling their record The Queen Is Dead.

The British alternative band, comprising of Morrissey, Johnny Marr, Andy Rourke, and Mike Joyce, released the record in 1986. The Queen Is Dead, their third studio album, featured the hit single The Boy with the Thorn in His Side.

Bassist Andy revealed the LP's unconventional title led to some interesting misunderstandings. Frontman Morrissey was so proud of the release he created a placard baring the title, much to one woman's horror.

"My mum's friend Ruth nearly fell off her chair," Andy told NME. "She thought it was literal The Queen Is Dead."

The Queen Is Dead is regarded as the band's best studio album by many critics. However, the band's subsequent record Meat Is Murder was their only LP to climb to the number one spot in the UK charts.

Guitarist Johnny remembered recording The Queen Is Dead in England, when it was "dark and wet outside". "It was very beautiful and it reflected how I felt for a large part of my life, and particularly about that period," he said. "But I didn't see a despondency in that, there's an acceptance of melancholia being a part of life, that's why I don't think it's depressing." (C) Cover Media
