Director: Ranjith

Rating: 3 / 5

Fresh, Refresh

'Welcome' director Ranjith to Kollywood we say, for 'Atta Kaththi' is a refreshing movie which is like a whiff of fresh air in Tamil cinema.

In the recent days, no film starring newcomers is as fresh and as interesting as Atta Katthi is, and the credits go to none other than debutant director Ranjith.

With a backdrop that is totally new to Kollywood (the story is set around suburbs of Chennai) and with a host of freshers playing the lead roles, Atta Katthi passes the test in flying colours.

The story is about Dinakaran (Dinesh) who is called as Atta Katthi (someone who is useless but boasts about himself too high). From a suburb area of Chennai, Dinesh spends his time with his friends and by wooing the girls he comes across.

One day, he meets Poornima (Nandhitha) on a bus and its love at first sight. But soon he realises that Poornima only thinks him as her 'anna'. Despite getting dejected, Dinakaran continues his duty, by shifting focus to another girl.

But fate has other plans as it brings together Dinakaran and Poornima again. What's next has been told in a gripping way.

The lead pair, Dinesh and Nandhitha, is hardly like newcomers. Their chemistry is certainly worth mentioning. For that matter, even others in the cast too perform like seasoned actors and the director has extracted excellent performance from them.

P. K. Varma has done commendable cinematography. The scenes inside bus have been captured well. Santosh Narayanan has added value to the flick with songs and background score.

From scene one till the end, hardly we think about other things while watching Atta Katthi. The second half is bit lengthy, but it doesn't harm the proceedings.

So book your tickets now and watch the film this weekend.
