A heavy and bloody watch from start to end...
160 minutes of exposure to the real and the bloody world of interiors of Jharkhand; Gangs of Wasseypur is a heavy watch.
Anurag Kashyap’s latest offering tells the tale of Wasseypur, a village shifted from Begal to Bihar and then today in Jharkand. It talks about the shower of wealth from coal mines and smuggling that eventually lead to the life taking rivalry of three generations.
Shahid Khan (Jaideep Ahlawat), a 'pehelwan' who guards his master's life, secretly wishes to take his place someday. Eventually, he's crushed in the fight for power by his own master Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). Khan leaves behind his son Sardar (Manoj Bajpayee) who shaves off his head, vowing not to grow his hair until he takes revenge for his father's death.
'Can we have a much more serene atmosphere?' The bloodshed and the rain of bullets throughout the movie will make the viewer think. Anurag has tried to amalgamate a lot of events into a mixture. And finally it tastes hot and sweet. His exceptional showcase of the violent and the fierce Wasseypur might even make you think, 'do they really exist?'
The story line tends to confuse a lot with variety of actors as the central characters. But the narration by Piyush Mishra helps to sustain the plot and characters in mind. The actors are perfectly chosen for the roles. Manoj Bajpayee enjoys much of the screen space, and also women. His flawless and unmatched performance as the heartless and the vengeful Sardar Khan keeps you gripping throughout. Nawazzuddin Siddiqui as Manoj's son is another main attraction in the movie, although he has only a small role .
Dialogues are crisp and the language is cuss that it sometimes skips your heart. But the exceptional comic timing ends up tickling your heart. You will find yourself doing LOL for many of the dialogues from Manoj.
Music by Sneha Khanwalkar complements the rural background set up and is commendable.
With suspense created at the end, Gangs of Wasseypur part 2 is a much awaited sequel.
