Movie Review: Teri Meri Kahaani

23rd June 2012

Director: Kunal Kohli

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra

Rating: 2/5

Same old story repeated in three different eras...

After Hum Tum and Fanaah another of Kunal Kohli's masterpiece was expected when Teri Meri Kahaani began. But unfortunately, the movie, even with a cast like Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor, failed to create the impact.

The movie tells us three different love stories set in three different eras. The first story is set in 1960 when Govind (Shahid Kapoor), an aspiring musician falls in love with Rukhsar (Priyanka Chopra), a famous Bollywood actress in Mumbai. The movie then takes a long leap and jumps directly to 2012, when playboy Krrish falls for the simple and flamboyant Radha from London. It then takes us back to 1910, when Javed, a guy who sleeps with every girl he sees, falls in love with Aradhana in Lahore. All the three eras narrate the same old story of a boy bumping into a girl and finally falling in love.

Since the movie is not narrated in the chronological way, the viewers will feel a little out of touch with the story. If Kunal was trying his hands on a new way of telling a story in the non-chronological order, well, it wasn’t such a good idea. The script of the movie works for the viewers, but the story is a letdown. Songs by Sajid-Wajid are really soothing and enjoyable. The brilliant cinematography of Sunil Patel makes the songs and the movie watchable.

Shahid Kapoor has given a decent performance and he proved his versatility in all the three of his role. Unfortunately Priyanka Chopra has nothing much to act in the film when compared to her mind-boggling performances in 7 Khoon Maaf and Fashion.

With all due respect, Teri Meri Kahaani is not the best offering from Kunal Kohli. Watch it if you have nothing else to do in the weekend.
