A fairy tale with a 'happily ever after' end
A cliched concept explained in a simple yet effective manner. This is what is in store for the viewers of Yeh Khula Aasmaan, the winner of the Best Foreign Feature Film at All Sports Los Angeles Film Festival.
Avinash (Raj Tandon) is a bright HSC student who fails to make it to IIT because of the lack of parental attention. He is left in Mumbai to study whilst his successful parents are busy making pounds in London. To seek relief, Avinash decides to visit his lone Daadu (Raghubir Yadav) in village. And then begins his journey of realization that failure is not the end of life; for that matter even success is not. The message is passed on through a simple kite competition that is held in the village.
The movie is balanced in the first half as well as the second half with no unnecessary dragging. The plot is set and the story is taken off in the first half of the movie. Gitanjali Sinha has directed the movie in a simple and smooth manner.
Raghubir Yadav is undoubtedly the usp of the movie. His role of a 'cool' grandfather successfully creates an emotional appeal to the audience. The poignant approach towards his grandson who has returned after 10 years and his means of motivation, make one want a grandfather like him.
The debut performances by the young lads, Raj, Anya Anand (as Avinash’s love interest) and Nitin Kerur (as Avinash’s childhood friend) are commendable. Though their reluctance being on camera for the first time is evident, they managed to carry their roles very well. They have great potential to go a long way.
Yashpal Sharma and Manjusha Godse are convincing as parents.
The screenplay of the movie is written credibly to keep the audience glued. The audience will surely not be put to boredom watching this movie. Anand Milind’s music is simple that soothes and suits the moments of the story.
The movie though carried well gives a not so commendable conclusion. You will have a quizzical brow looking at the young lad when shown as a father to son.
All in All, Yeh Khula Aasman imparts a feel good experience with its fairy tale story and a happily ever after end.
