Naomi Campbell: Runways should be a rainbow

13th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Fashion - Naomi Campbell says she was happy to see ?such a mix of girls? modelling nowadays because she thinks the runways should be a ?rainbow.?

The British model is often cited as one of the key figures to have knocked down the barriers for brown-skinned supermodels, along with the US model Tyra Banks and David Bowie?s model wife Iman.

Naomi shot to fame back in the 90s, and says nowadays she is glad to see so many more African American models on the catwalk, along with girls of varying other ethnicities.

The star specifically cited the recent Fashion?s Night Out show in New York, organised by Vogue editor Anna Wintour, as a key example of how times have changed.

?Diversity on the runways is getting better. I loved what Anna [Wintour] did the other night with the Fashion?s Night Out show. There was such a mix of girls from so many different countries and continents. It was like a rainbow. That?s how it should always be,? the beauty told WWD.

Naomi went on to praise her colleagues in the fashion industry, saying she is still in close contact with fellow supermodels such as Kate Moss, Christy Turlington, Claudia Schiffer and Linda Evangelista.

The beauties all rose to stardom during the same period, and became synonymous with fashion, elegance and beauty in the 90s.

Naomi insists she still keeps in touch with them all in a personal and professional manner because they get along so well and share a unique bond.

?I love my group of beautiful, amazing ladies that I came up with. We?re all friendly and very warm. We?re like family,? she gushed. (C) Cover Media
