Nas heeds inner blues player'

20th July 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nas reveals he has a deep connection with his inner blues musician.

The renowned rap superstar credits his father, jazz musician Olu Dara, for his understanding of the history of music.

Nas believes this wealth of knowledge has helped him have such a long and successful hip-hop career.

"You can hear the blues player inside me," Nas told NME magazine about his roots.

"My plan is to do music every time I feel it. Doing that has made me probably the longest-lasting hip-hop artist."

Hip-hop legend Nas reflects often on how the industry has changed.

He believes hip-hop today is unrecognisable to the scene he first got involved in. What started on the streets has evolved into artists becoming mainstream chart toppers like Kanye West and media mogul Jay-Z.

"I still have love for hip-hop in some of its original forms, but it's a big business now," he said. "Thank god hip-hop became so big." (C) Cover Media
