(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nicolas Cage was arrested on suspicion of domestic abuse.

The 47-year-old actor was taken into custody late Friday night by police in New Orleans after what they described as a public fight with his wife Alice Kim.

According to the Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office, the Oscar-winning star, who has had mounting tax and financial troubles for the last two years, was arrested after witnesses saw him arguing with his wife on the street while apparently heavily intoxicated.

Police were said to have been alerted to the alleged incident in the early hours by a taxi driver.

According to official records, Cage was held on suspicion of domestic abuse and disturbing the peace in New Orleans. A mug shot showing him in a black T-shirt with his eyes shut was released with details of his arrest.

"Cage and his wife were standing in front of a residence that he insisted was the property the couple was renting. She disagreed and Cage grabbed her by the upper arm and pulled her to what he believed was the correct address, police explained in an official statement.

He was released from custody today at about 1.00pm local time, with celebrity website Radaronline reporting he posted $11,000 bail.

There were no visible injuries to Nicolas wife. (C) Cover Media
