(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Nicole Kidman was happy to do her own make-up in an effort to cut costs on Rabbit Hole.

The 43-year-old actress portrays Becca in the critically acclaimed drama about a happy couple whose life is turned upside down after their young son dies in an accident.

Nicole was also a producer on the movie, which features a performance from hunk Aaron Eckhart as Nicoles characters husband Howie and is based on a play by David Lindsay-Abaire.

In her role as producer, Nicole admits she encouraged a lean and mean budget, and was happy to sacrifice having a make-up artist in a bid to keep funds down.

"We can share one make-up artist for all of us, I can do my own make-up if needs be. That's the sort of contribution that I find really good," she explained to BCC Radio Four.

The star was also happy not to have a trailer on set, as she thinks they can be a waste of money. Instead, the actress waited in a car when she wasnt needed.

"I go, 'We don't need trailers, I'll sit in the car if we're shooting on the street and you can call me when you need me to do the scene' and that saves an enormous amount of money," added the beauty.

Despite the budget restrictions, Nicole has received high praise for her part in the film, and was yesterday announced as a nominee for the best actress gong at the upcoming 2011 Academy Awards. (C) Cover Media
