Nina Dobrev apparently "freaked out" when her boyfriend Ian Somerhalder proposed to her over the holidays.

The 23-year-old star of The Vampire Diaries has been dating her co-star for several months but was shocked when he asked her to marry him, In Touch reports.

Ian, 33, wanted to take his relationship with the Bulgaria-born beauty to the next level but she did not feel the same way.

"She is freaking out, saying, I don't want to marry him!'" a friend told the publication.

"She thinks she's too young, and with all the offers she's getting, she's poised to be a big star."

But Nina apparently now feels that the relationship is ruined because of the serious turn their romance has taken.

"They were having fun, and now there's a lot of tension," the source added.

Ian had previously told Us Weekly what he loves about his girlfriend.

"She truly enjoys life," he gushed. "Her desire to experience and appreciate everything around her, and chuckle, and enjoy it, is great."
