Paul Costelloe opens London Fashion Week

17th September 2010

(Cover) - EN Fashion - Paul Costelloe was the first designer to show at London Fashion Week today.

The series of shows will take place at Somerset House by the River Thames, with designers including Betty Jackson, Henry Holland, John Rocha, Anya Hindmarch, Julien Macdonald, Matthew Williamson and Christopher Kane all set to unveil collections.

Pauls show took place at 9am, and featured lots of mini dresses in pastel colours. Many of the frocks boasted high waists and pleats, with subtle metallic sections which ensured they sparked on the runway. The collection was inspired by Tinkerbell-turned-party girl, and sundresses had cut-out sections while jackets came in brocade.

Paul also showed some menswear, with male models strutting their stuff in sharp suits, some in shiny fabric, teamed with pinstripe shirts and ties.

Maria Grachvogel showed next, with a minimal collection designed to show off womens natural beauty. Dresses were long and came in block colour, while hair and make-up was kept fresh.

Interest came in the form of silver catsuits, with Marias opting for bright colours such as yellow from her block dresses. The gowns were created from a single piece of fabric, so they flowed around the body and looked fluid.

Jean-Pierre Braganza described his range as listening to Heavy Metal whispered by fairies, and the pieces were as eclectic as the inspiration. Leather pieces were in pale shades of pink, while a white dress was taken to the next level courtesy of hundreds of sparking seams decorating it.

Due to show later today are Sass & Bide, Aminaka Wilmont and PPQ. Sienna Miller and her sister Savannahs label Twenty8Twelve will show tomorrow, along with House of Holland, Betty Jackson, John Rocha and Osman. (C) Cover Media
