Prosecution rests case in Jackson trial

3rd November 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Dr. Conrad Murray "acted with criminal negligence" on the day of Michael Jackson's death, the prosecution told jurors today in closing arguments.

Deputy District Attorney David Walgren presented closing arguments to the jury today in the final day of trial before jurors deliberate on a sentence in the case against Dr. Conrad Murray for the singer's involuntary manslaughter.

"The evidence in this case is overwhelmingly, abundantly clear that Conrad Murray acted with criminal negligence, that Conrad Murray caused the death of Michael Jackson, that Conrad Murray left [Jackson's children] Prince, Paris and Blanket without a father," Walgren sternly asserted.

Walgren asked jurors to call attention to the four gallons of anaesthetic that Murray injected into Jackson during his term as personal physician of the star.

The attorney also requested that jurors take note of the lack of medical records Murray carried on Jackson. Walgren believed that the jury should also consider how Murray acted on the day of Jackson's death.

He argued that Murray must not have been paying full attention to the star if he was having so many conversations on his cell phone around the time Jackson received the fatal injection of Propofol.

"What was so pressing that he just couldn't care for Michael Jackson?" the prosecutor queried.

Walgren also argued that Murray clearly had a "consciousness of guilt" whilst providing incomplete information to emergency medical personnel on the day of the singer's death.

The attorney then moved on to discount the accuracy of the defence team's medical witnesses, particularly the testimony of anaesthesiologist Dr. Paul White who claimed that Jackson injected himself with a lethal dose of Propofol.

"What you were presented by Dr. White was junk science...it was garbage," Walgren said.

Walgren closed stating that Murray acted with "extreme, criminal, gross negligence."

"Michael Jackson trusted Conrad Murray. He trusted him with his life," Walgren concluded. "Justice demands a guilty verdict."

Murray is facing up to four years in state prison and the loss of his medical licence should he be convicted.

The defence will present their closing arguments this afternoon. (C) Cover Media
