January 12, 2011 (Sampurn Wire): Pupy 2, the Keralan animation film for children has won the prestigious Golden Beaver Award. The film was a favorite amongst all present at the National Science Film Festival. The event was organized by the Indian Science Congress in Chennai, few days ago. The Silver Beaver Award which is given to the second best movie was bagged by State Institute of Educational Technologys production, Ants all around us. Though its not an animation film but nonetheless, its a great video film. The third position award, which is called the Bronze Beaver Award, was also nabbed by one of the State Institute of Educational Technologys production, named Butterflies.
Coming back to Pupy 2, its been launched as a science education film for children, that explains basic day to day scientific occurrences happening around us, said the production house, Hibiscus Digital Media of Thiruvananthapuram.
The prize money is less but the respect is huge. Pupy 2s director K.S. Madhu was awarded 50,000 INR from film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. The jury at the International Documentary and Short Film Festival of Kerala also gave a special mention to the film. Pupy 2 is originally a sequel of Pupy 1, which was a childrens
television programme. The Pupy 1 series had won the State television award for best children's television programme in 2006. All in all, 58 films were competing in this event. The prize money for the second and third position was 30,000 INR and 20,000 INR respectively.
