On Monday, Ranjitha filed a criminal defamation complaint against Kanchi seer Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal for his reported statements against her.

The actress, who is a disciple of Swami Nithyananda, could not complete the defamation proceeding formalities on Friday since she arrived late to the Court. Hence she came on time on Monday and lodged her complaint with the additional chief metropolitan magistrate V. P. Ravindran.

The Kanchi seer, who is opposed to Nithyananda's anointment as Madurai Aadheenam, told reporters last week that the tradition of the Madurai Aadheenam is for its seers to tonsure their heads and wear a rudraksha, but a woman by the name of Ranjitha was with Nithyananda.

Slamming the pontiff who gave unfavorable statements against her, the actress has sought to initiate defamation proceedings. The actress along with her advocates came to the Egmore Magistrate Court to file the case.
