(Cover) - EN Movies - Rawson Thurber has been hired to pen the script for an adaptation of Gerard Way's comic book.

American musician Gerard, best known as lead singer with My Chemical Romance, wrote the hugely successful comic book The Umbrella Academy, which was first released in 2007 by Dark Horse comics.

It featured art by Gabriel B, and told the story of seven superhero kids being adopted by a millionaire inventor to rescue the planet.

The comic is now being adapted for the big screen, with a movie scheduled for release in 2012, and 36-year-old Rawson will be rewriting the script.

According to Deadline, Mark Bomback, best known for his work on films such as Unstoppable, will also be involved in the script.

The Umbrella Academy is not the only Dark Horse comic to move into film development. Another scheduled project is R.I.P.D., which will star Ryan Reynolds and Jeff Bridges, with Robert Schwentke as director. (C) Cover Media
