'Rebel': Movie Review

29th September 2012

Cast: Prabhas, Tamannaah Bhatia, Deeksha Seth and Brahmanandam

Director: Raghava Lawrence

Rating: 2/5

A tasteless underated drama

Raghava Lawrence is considered to be one of the best directors in the South film industry, especially Tollywood. But this time, he has suprised all of us by giving us a worthless drama which comes out from no where.

Having stars like Prabhas and Tamannaah Bhatia, one would feel that entertainment yet again came with another level of expectations. But sadly with 'Rebel' it only comes with devastation and disaster.

Rushi (Prabhas) is in search of Steffen Robins. Apparently he travels to Bangkok to meet Nandini (Tamannaah Bhatia) who happens to be Nana's daughter, one of the dreaded dons in his hometown.

He travels with his best friend Brahmanandam to look out for Nandini so he can find out the whereabouts of Steffen.

The mission behind his search is what forms the rest of the story.

The plot of the entire movie is written atrociously and even worse is the execution. Prabhas, who happens to be the lead of the movie seems to be side-cornered by Tamannaah, Brahmanandam and Narasa Raju who have their own story rattling in the background.

Though Prabhas has tried to be the director's pet, giving his best in delivering the character he portray's in the movie, the dialogues are written so shabbily that his performance only brings an emotional outburst at all times.

But yes, the film does have a few highlights that appear in intervals. Prabhas sports some heavy action scenes that that are highly reviewed, wherein Tamannaah is used to fill in the glamour quotient and she has successfully done her job. Her dancing skills should be well appreciated too.

Deeksha Seth is seen doing a very small role, but yes her performance delivery is sweet and subtle.

If only the story, direction and the technical aspects of the movie were looked upon thoroughly, then 'Rebel' would be a treat this season. A slow story and tasteless music has just screwed the entire 40 crore budget movie which is not visible on-screen.

If you like the stars then you might want to catch up watching this movie. Otherwise, it is 'highly low' to comment on flick.
