September 17, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Megastar Mammootty starrer Malayalam movie Pranchiyettan and the Saint has received reviews following its Ramzan release last week. The rare kind of story telling of the film has been appreciated by the audience and the critics.
Renjith, the writer, director and producer of the movie is very happy with the response and was quoted saying that he tried to offer something different to the audience while keeping a part of mainstream cinema.
Recently, Renjith was conversing with the media at the Kannur Press Club when he shared this thoughts with everyone. The director said that viewers avoid the theaters these days because of the repetition of the ideas in the Malayalam films. He said that it is the high time for Malayalam films to try something new and different considering the intelligence of the most learned viewers.
In Renjith's words, the Malayalam film industry has turned into an animal tied to a peg and it is powerlessly circumventing around it. The filmmaker said that the other language films are doing successful business in their state not because of big budgets and technical backup, but because their different themes and characterizations draw the viewers to the theaters.
Hope the other filmmakers in Mollywood are listening to Renjth seriously!
