Rhys Ifans toyed' with voice for role

22nd October 2011

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rhys Ifans altered his "voice" drastically for his upcoming action role.

Rhys plays villain The Lizard in next summer's The Amazing Spider-Man. Stage make-up and costumes aside, Rhys became immersed in the character.

The actor tried his best to communicate like a reptile.

"It's totally my voice," Rhys told MTV News. "There were many moments when I had to speak to [co-stars] Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone as The Lizard."

Performing his Lizard voice was an exciting experience for Rhys. The actor also thoroughly enjoyed wearing the villain's bizarre apparel.

"I'm sure the voice will be toyed with in the eventual edits, but when I was shooting the CGI moments, when I wasn't actually human, when I was Lizard, I looked like a crash-test dummy in a green leotard thing," Rhys recalled.

Rhys is extremely enthusiastic about audiences hearing what The Lizard will sound like. Instead of waiting until next year to hear it, Rhys gave the interviewer a sonic sample of what is to come.

"Sooooo prettyyyyy," Rhys hissed. "Beauuuuutiful MTV..."

The Amazing Spider-Man will be released in July 2012. (C) Cover Media
