Robert Pattinson: Actors dont need muscles

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Robert Pattinson prepares for topless scenes by only drinking protein shakes.

The actors role as broody vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise has won him hordes of female admirers, many of who are keen to catch a glimpse of the young stars physique. Hes had to strip off for roles in the past and although he insists he only ever does so for artistic purposes, he admits finding the concept daunting.

Robert always ensures hes in the best shape possible if he knows he has to flash some flesh, often going to the gym for four hours daily in the run up to shooting.

I dont eat at all expect for protein shakes. But I dont understand how you could maintain that all your life. After the scenes done, I dont work out again, he explained to the June issue of Elle magazine. Its a ridiculous idea that youre not a proper actor unless you have a six-pack.

Robert is getting used to his fame, although the interest in his personal life is sometimes difficult for him to handle. Hes currently promoting his new movie Water for Elephants, which also stars Reese Witherspoon, 35. Much was made of him appearing alongside an older woman on screen, but Robert, 24, doesnt understand what the fuss was about.

Every girl I went out with in my teens was older than me. My first girlfriend was 26, I was 17. Women who were older always seemed more exciting, he mused.

I used to think I was a bit of a bad-ass when I was younger. I liked that it annoyed people how much younger I was. I liked walking into a room with a woman and people looking at us and thinking: they do not look right together.

Robert is currently dating his Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart, although they prefer not to talk about their relationship in public. He knows their silence has led many to presume their romance is a charade, something he has laughed off.

If the studio tried to get involved with my personal life, I could start messing around with them in return No. Theres nothing nefarious going on, he said. People think we have people organising everything, that its all a publicity stunt. Its not. There is no magical entourage - youre just a person on your own. You have to figure it out.
