Rufus Sewell: Nice is weak

15th July 2012

(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Rufus Sewell thinks people's desire to be nice makes them "weak".

The actor has appeared in movies such as The Tourist, The Holiday and his latest release Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.

Having a movie career means Rufus has developed a thick skin and as he's got older he's started to care less about what people think of him.

"If someone doesn't think I'm nice they can generally f**k off. I used to worry more about that than I should," he explained. "But we can do our most hurtful things in the name of niceness, especially in relationships. It's not because we've stopped being nice; it's because our wish to be nice makes us weak."

Rufus thinks too many actors become obsessed with their public persona. Although during interviews and while promoting his work the 44-year-old has grown accustomed to hearing favourable comments about his appearance, that isn't the case in his normal life.

"My progress down the street is rarely hindered by women throwing themselves at me," he laughed to the latest edition of UK magazine Elle.

"People generally don't find themselves bowled over with my sexual power. Though I'd love it if they did, obviously." (C) Cover Media
