Russell Brand's friends are reportedly getting increasingly worried about his "eccentric" behaviour.

The British actor announced his split from wife Katy Perry at the end of last year, with their divorce due to be finalised this summer.

Although Russell has been putting on a brave face since the break-up and been linked to a string of women, including Oriela Medellin Amieiro friends of the star say it's a different story behind closed doors.

"Russell's always been eccentric, but his wacky dress sense is not helping at the moment and friends feel he's been overly flamboyant and positive," a source told British magazine Closer.

"He talks very fast, barely pausing for breath it's as if he hates silence. He'll mention Katy and then shout, I don't want to talk about her!'"

Russell was recently charged with two counts of criminal damage to property, after he turned himself into police custody.

The New Orleans Police Department issued a warrant for his arrest after Russell snatched a paparazzo's mobile phone and launched it into the window of a law firm as he was walking down a street in New Orleans, Louisiana, last Monday.

Pals are worried about his behaviour.

"He's promised friends he'll consider a holiday in the next few weeks, but right now, his life seems so wobbly, his friends have no idea what to expect from him next," the source added.

"They are hoping he'll take time out to make sure he's healed properly after the split."
