(Cover) - EN Showbiz - Ryan Reynolds has joked he got jealous of his friend and co-star Jason Bateman because he did such a good job portraying him.
The two actors star alongside each other in new comedy The Change-Up, which follows the chaos that ensues when two friends swap bodies.
Jason, who had to play his own character, but with Ryan's mannerisms, did such a good job, the Canadian hunk felt envious.
"You know what was unsettling is he did it so damn well that I sort of sat there going, 'God, I should have played that part,'" he told MTV. "'I should have done that one. That looks like fun.'"
Jason had plenty of praise for his co-star too. Likening him to comic actor Vince Vaughn, he is in awe of Ryan's ability to come up with lines spontaneously.
"[What] some actors will do when you're doing comedies is that, during the time it takes between when you rehearse a scene and when you shoot it, they light the scene," he explained. "You go in your dressing room, and if you have a good work ethic, you'll write down some extra jokes to say when they shoot the scene. This guy, they just fall right out of his head, quickly and as high-quality as Mr. Vince Vaughn. I don't have those skills. I have to write stuff down. He forces my game up quite a bit, so I did a lot of studying in my trailer"
The two friends also joked that having studied each other's habits and mannerisms so closely, they are now stuck with some.
To be able to portray the other, each actor had to their co-star's characteristics, right down to patterns of speech.
"Some of them stuck with me. Like when I said, 'Real long,' that's you," Ryan told Bateman. "I'm doing you right there." (C) Cover Media
