Pawns of politics

Everything in this world has some politics attached to it, so to speak. Some are open, while many are hidden. Some understand this, while many don't. Sakuni is a movie which throws light on such political games.

While the film impresses big time in the first half, it loses steam in the latter part. Attempts to establish Karthi Sivakumar as a mass hero are only half successful.

The film relies heavily on Karthi and Santhanam, and the two actors have fulfilled what would have been expected.

Debutant filmmaker Shankar Dayal has conceived a potent storyline, but missed out somehow while developing it as a full-fledged script. As a result, the film fails to maintain interest as it progresses.

Kamalakannan (Karthi) comes to the city to meet those in power to seek their help, as he is on the verge of losing his ancestral house.

However, he finds that almost all the politicians are corrupt, including the Chief Minister (Prakash Raj). A hurt Kamal decides to take on them with the help Apparao Rajini (Santhanam).

But being the smart chap that he is, Kamal plays mind games and changes political equations in the State, which makes him a target of some big fishes.

Karthi shines in comedy and action sequences, while Santhanam does what he does best - Comedy. Pranitha is pretty and performs well too. Prakash Raj, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Radhika, Roja, Kiran and others add star value. Anushka's cameo is also something to look forward to.

Music by G V Prakash Kumar passes the muster, while P G Muthaiah's cinematography is beautiful. Other technical departments are average.

On the whole, Sakuni may entertain those who want to spend a couple of hours without minding about anything, especially logic. For others, there are other ways to kill time.
