Logical loopholes yet, a welcome addition...
Movies set in the backdrop of southern Tamil Nadu are nothing new to Kollywood. Debutant director R Subramanian's Sevarkkodi is one such film, set in the backdrop of Tiruchendur.
The film is about two youngsters and the battle between them. Subramaniam proves in many places that he has a firm grip over the medium. If at all he corrects some pitfalls in his style of screenplay writing, he could make it to the list of top directors of Tamil film industry.
Kali (Bhavan) is a driver, who works for one Annachi. Serious by nature, he strives hard to make it big in life. While Bala (Arun Balaji), who is out of college is in love with Valli (Bhama). Even as Kali plans to get his sister married to Annachi in return for some fortune, she runs away with her lover. The blame falls on Bala for helping out the couple. Now, Kali only aims at taking his reprisal from Bala. What's next is the crux.
The film is essentially a revenge story that is not executed well by the director. At a point, your brain questions the screenplay.
Talking about the performances, Bhavan, Arun Balaji and Bhama are right picks for their respective roles. The actors add the right kind of emotions that works in the favour of the film. Chelladurai's cinematography and Sathya's music pass the muster. The aspect worth noticing in the film is the camera angles used that makes it an interesting watch.
On the whole, despite logical loopholes, Sevarkkodi is a welcome addition.
