Simon Cowell admits he is "attracted to crazy women" following his split from his fiance.

In a new biography, the 52-year-old has revealed his engagement to Mezhgan Hussainy, 39, came to an end after many arguments. The book, entitled Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life Of Simon Cowell by Tom Bower, also claims he gave Mezhgan his 5 million Beverly Hills home as a parting gift. Friends of the music mogul explain how he realised his mistake after he had proposed to the Afghan beauty.

"I'm attracted to crazy women. I encourage crazy behaviour and I make them crazy," he said according to British newspaper The Sun.

"I'm attracted to certain personalities who are difficult to control. So there are tantrums, tears and fights, which is all part of the drama. My life is really odd."

The book includes details an argument between the two when Simon returned home late from an American Idol taping in 2010. Mezhgan unleashed her fury at the Britain's Got Talent judge in front of his mother Julie, 87.

"The tension was horrendous. The way Mezhgan behaved made my stomach churn," Julie is quoted as saying, according to the Daily Mail.

Simon admits the engagement was a "a big mistake", according to the biography. He also believes he is partly to blame. "I'm a hopeless boyfriend," he said.

Simon and Mezhgan, who met while she was a make-up artist on American Idol, were last seen together leaving a friend's house in Beverly Hills in September 2011. Mezhgan has been photographed without her engagement ring.

Simon's manager confirmed they were no longer planning a wedding. Simon proposed on Valentine's Day 2010 with a 250,000 diamond ring from jewellers Graff.
