This year it was a big Deepavali for Suriya, as the actor's magnum opus '7aam Arivu' saw a bumper opening on Wednesday. In a bid to cater to the swelling reservation enquiries, cinema halls started screening the film from Tuesday afternoon itself, though the release date was November 26 (Wednesday).
'This is the biggest ever opening for a Suriya movie. He has fans in all ages and all sections and all of them have made a beeline to theatres to watch the film on the first day itself, thanks to aggressive promotions by producer Udhayanidhi Stalin and his team.' sources say.
Directed by A R Murugadoss, who made 'Ghajini' earlier with the Suriya himself, '7aam Arivu' is about the greatness and valour of ancient Tamils. The film bats for the cause of everyone learning the history as our forefathers those days were experts in medical science, astrology and martial arts.
Surya plays a circus artiste and a Buddhist monk, revealing his histrionic talent again in the company of Shruthi Hassan, the elder daughter of one of the icons of Indian cinema Kamal Hassan. In fact, Shruthi, also a singer, makes her debut in a Tamil film with 7aam Arivu.
