Tax exemption denied; Udhayanidhi approaches court

23rd April 2012

Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies has filed a petition in the Madras High Court alleging that tax exemption was denied to Oru Kal Oru Kannadi by the government of Tamil Nadu, due to political reasons.

The petition said the film which marked the heroic debut of Udhayanidhi Stalin was eligible to get tax exemption, as per the rules of the government.

'It has got a Tamil title and there is no scene hurting the culture of Tamil Nadu,' the petition said.

It further said that besides complying with the regulations of the State government, tax exemption was denied to OK OK due to political reasons, as Udhayanidhi is the son of former Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister M K Stalin.

Hearing the petition, High Court Justice Janarathana Raja has issued a notice to the government seeking a reply on April 24.
