Watch if you have nothing else to do...

It takes great courage to make a film based on a real life story. You need to get all the facts right and intensive research goes behind the same. ‘Thambi Vettothi Sundaram’ is about a true story that took place in the Kanyakumari district of the Kerala - Tamil Nadu border. The film is about Sundaram (Karan) who is a true-to-heart gentleman who can never do anything wrong. He is looking for a government job since a long time but has been let down due to others’ contacts, nepotism and favoritism. On the other hand, his best friend Sala (Sravanan) constructs various illegal deals.

The twist arises when Sundaram falls in love with the daughter of a liquor smuggler Lourd Mary (Anjali). Now, this and other circumstances lead to an honest Sundaram falling in the wrong trade. What happens next is what we would want you to watch in theatres.

Vadivudaiyan, though took all the necessary permissions and has researched on the subject matter, the film seems to be made very half-heartedly. Also, you get a very "been there seen that" kind of a feeling while watching the film as there is no novelty that the director has tried to put in. Though, he boasts of a real life story, there are many films that have already been made on a similar plot.

Talking about the performances, Karan does extremely well with what he has in hands. Anjali too fits the bill and the two show a decent chemistry. Going ahead, the two would be cast by many filmmakers together for their films. But the one who completely steals the show is Sravanan. He impresses to the core and has a bright future ahead. The rest of the supporting cast is Okay.

The climax of the film contrasts the idea of the film being a real life story. It gets too melodramatic and bloody. Also, the director should have paid a little more attention to the editing of the film. The pace of the film really slows down especially in the emotional moments. The music of the film deserves a plus but yes it’s not really that great. The background score compliments.

Based on a true story, the film is good to watch if you want to get an idea of what really happened. But believing the story totally will not be recommended because of the commercial elements added. It’s a decent watch if you have nothing better to do.
