(Cover) - EN Star Style - Tim Gunn says that classic fashion with longevity is the hottest trend of the moment

The Project Runway mentor explained that as people have less money to spend on clothes due to the ongoing global financial crisis, timeless styles have become more popular.

In particular, he said items such as the trench coat and blazer have become essential to many glamorous girls wardrobe.

Thankfully fashion has woken up to the fact that we are in an economic downturn and people dont want to spend capriciously on clothes so the classics are back, he told American website Extra. We see the pea coat we see the blazer we see the trench, we see beautiful classic dresspants, so there are a lot of items out there that have along staying power in ones closet its really a great thing.

The fashion guru was also adamant that just because a certain colour is in that season, it doesnt necessarily mean everyone should wear it.

It is imperative to take into account vital factors such as skin tone and hair and eye colourings before deciding whether a shade suits you, he said.

That question, Whats the new colour? Youve got to ask, Is that new colour good for you, he said. Because colour is objective in terms of personal taste but also depending on your skin tone, your hair colour, your eyes, colour can work or not work on each individual which is why when people say, Yellow is the colour of the season! Really? Have you seen how many people look in yellow?

Tim, who has a new book out called Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making It Work, also said that one of the hardest but most important things to do when deciding on a certain look is to be deeply honest with yourself.

If something isnt working, he advises people not to push it.

Try it on, look at yourself critically and objectively. If your soul and body says that this isnt working chances are it really isnt.

At the same time Im all for pushing people are having them take fashion risks, he added. (C) Cover Media
