Cult classic 'Pyaasa' makes its way to Venice Film Festival

Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman and Mala Sinha's cult classic 'Pyaasa' to be screened at Venice Film Festival.

It is the first film to be restored to its original quality and will be seen competing with 20 other prestigious films restored for the festival. The festival will be held from September 2-12, 2015 in Venice.

'Pyaasa' will screen on September 11-12, 2015 in Sala Volpi auditorium. Ultra Media and Entertainment, who own the negative rights of the film, restored it in order to present it to the audience in its original quality.

Sushil Kumar Agrawal, CEO, Ultra Media & Entertainment said,"It took us nearly four months to restore this film frame by frame and we are happy that the final outcome of the restored version can now be seen in its original form. Out of the many classics that we have restored, ‘Pyaasa’ has a special place in our hearts."

"We are also planning a major theatrical release of 'Pyaasa' post its screening at the Venice Film Festival."

"Thousands of instances of dirt, lines, scratches, splices, warps, jitters and green patches were manually removed frame by frame under careful supervision by experienced artists," he said.

Along with visuals, audio disturbances like clicks, thumps, hiss and hum were manually removed frame by frame at the sound studio.

The movie will be showcased in the aspect ratio of 1.33:1.
